Info: The first Dinky Toys cars came on the market in December of 1933, but they were not called Dinky Toys until April of 1934. Until then they where Modelled Miniatures, sold under the name of their original manufacturers, the Frank Hornby firm best known for its electric trains. Production of Dinky Toys vehicles began more or less simultaneously in Liverpool and Bobigny, France. British and French Dinky Toys were more or less closely related throughout their history, occasionally sharing models, but more often (and particularly in the early days) producing different though generically related series of models
The red Karmann-Ghia is made in France, the green version in England.
Frnace production stopped in 1972. The production in England continued till 1980.
In 1987 the name Dinky is bought by Universal International who also Matchbox bought before.
In 1988 the "new" dinky's were released under the name Dinky Collection. The Red 1968 karmann-ghia was released in this serie.
Today with permission of the manufactorer new colorvariantion may be released. These are called Code-2.
There are two different code-2 karmann-ghia released. The Dutch Dinky Society released in 1999 a code-2 model in three different colors and later in 2002 a silverplated.
The third supplement of the dinky book also was released with a code-2 karmann-ghia. This come in white, but there were also other colors used in very limited amounts.
